Once again, the Greater Pittsburgh area's knit and crochet community is stepping forward to support The Salvation Army's efforts.

The 5th Annual Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival will serve as a convenient drop-off site that will support The Salvation Army's 21st Annual Fabric Fair. The Knit and Crochet Festival is slated for the weekend of February 14th and 15th from 9:00 am through 5:00 pm and 9:00 am through 4:30 pm respectively at the FOUR POINTS Sheraton, Pittsburgh North. The hotel is located in the Cranberry area. Donations of fabric, notions, yarn, needles, pattern books and other related items will be welcomed at the festival throughout the weekend.

Items left from the Knit and Crochet Festival are donated to The Salvation Army's Fabric Fair event and provides an even wider array of items to sell at its upcoming 21st Annual Fabric Fair. This year's event, sponsored by The Salvation Army's Greater Pittsburgh Women's Auxiliary, is slated for Saturday, April 4th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the South Park Home Economics Building, located on Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh's South Hills.

"Our fellow crafters from the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival have been a huge support," said Major Lynette Reel, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Associate Divisional Commander. Reel continued, "Collaboration is always a great way to best serve the community. Shoppers have a multitude of economical choices at two unique events and needy Allegheny County families reap the benefits."

Fabric Fair generates more than $21,000 in funding annually. Money raised supports a wide range of valuable services through the work of The Salvation Army. "We would really like to encourage our supporters to patronize both the Fifth Annual Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival and our Fabric Fair," said Mrs. Reel. "Together, our organizations are making a significant contribution to our community."

Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize items in preparation of The Salvation Army's Fabric Fair. Donations of fabric and notions are being accepted.

Both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 117 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
