The handicraft industry is going to get a new boost with the announcement by the provincial government of Ninh Binh, that the province will find jobs for 16,000 people from rural areas, irrespective of the economic crisis and that they will be trained to produce traditional handicraft bamboo and rattan products.

This was announced by the Deputy Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of the province. According to another official, in 2008, the province created jobs for more than 17,000 people in rural areas, which accounts for 3.8 percent of the workforce in rural regions of the province.

The province will also call on domestic and international companies to invest in the region, in a bid to generate employment for thousands of students who graduate each year from the state colleges. In 2007, a training course in tailoring and handicrafts was organised by the local job training centre for 400 people, which was also emulated in 2008 by training 700 people in the art of weaving rush mats.
