Turkey had recently imposed anti-dumping duty on cotton yarn and textiles imported from India. India had disputed the anti-dumping duty by suggesting that it was against World Trade Organisation (WTO) guidelines.
When Turkey still did not relent, India registered a formal complaint and requested for a consultation process with Turkey before the issue is taken up with the Dispute Settlement Body to find a solution to the vexed issue.
Official from both countries are expected to meet in Geneva in April under the formal consultation process and look for ways and means to resolve the dispute, since Turkey has agreed to meet the Indian officials.
Turkey in a bid to protect its cotton textile industry along with Egypt had imposed a 15 percent anti-dumping duty on cotton textiles imports from India in contravention of the 5 percent agreed to under the WTO rules.
