The staff and management of Oamaru based, Summit Wool Spinning Co. have negotiated a cut back in working days with its employees in a bid to survive the challenges thrown by the economic crisis which has resulted in a slowdown.
This negotiation will mean that 57 employees will be able to retain their jobs. Summit is a Japannese based company and is one of the biggest independent producers of yarn meant for carpet manufacturing.
This cut back which entails a nine day work schedule in a fortnight will be accompanied by a government sponsored wage top up if it is approved successfully.
