He continued, “Keeping this in view and to protect the silk weavers from the cheap imports of silk fabrics Central Silk Board in association with various Silk weavers Associations of Varanasi, Bangalore Surat etc. took initiative and brought about the antidumping duty on silk fabrics also and the imposition of antidumping duty on Chinese silk fabric from November 2006 by Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties has helped many silk weavers to revive their units”.
To conclude the interview, we asked him about the future plans of the CSB, to which said, “We run short of around 10,000 metric tons of raw silk per year and are hence trying to improve the production of raw silk along with putting a thrust on Bivoltine silk production to have quality and quantity. Along with this we are also introducing automatic reeling machines in the reeling sector and trying to bring about quality improvement and increase in production and productivity through improvement of technology and value addition through better designs”.
