On the occasion of World Environment Day, Sahakari Bhandar, Mumbai's iconic co-operative neighborhood retail stores are celebrating this day with a unique Green initiative.

Sahakari Bhandar has launched cloth bags for customers to make a greener choice every time they shop at the store. These reusable cloth bags are a step towards saving our planet and create a greener world.

Sahakari Bhandar has tied up with an NGO called RUR (Are You Recycling) to promote the use of cloth bags. What is more exciting is that every time a customer returns to the store with the cloth bag; he earns himself Green Points which are redeemable as discounts on his next purchase. This initiative will be promoted across 18 stores of Sahakari Bhandar located in Mumbai and the unique promotion in the first phase will be at stores located at Matunga, Juhu, Bandra, Chembur & Colaba.

TV stars Anjolie Alagh from the serial Seeta aur Geeta on NDTV Imagine and Anuj Saxena were present at the occasion to pledge their support and promote this Green initiative at Sahakari Bhandar, Matunga.

Another green initiative undertaken by Sahakari Bhandar on this occasion is to spread awareness on the concept of Recycling. Sahakari Bhandar will drive the recycling program by providing collection bins at all its stores where consumers can drop their pre-used plastic bags which will be then be sent for recycling. All these green initiatives can save our planet from being loaded with waste.

Sahakari Bhandar is also ensuring that the future of India, its young generation, is educated on the environment and has organized an Ecokid Carnival from 1.00 am to 4.00 pm which would also be coupled with loads of fun games and prizes for kids.
