Once again this year, the ACIMIT Foundation has awarded various research prizes in the field of textile machinery. Eligible students were in their fourth and fifth year of studies at technical institutes, as well as third year university students enrolled in textile engineering.
The prizes, which consisted in a monetary sum of 800 euros for each individual research project, were awarded to eight students who presented work reputed as especially deserving by the adjudicating commission.Mr. Paolo Banfi, ACIMIT's outgoing president, presented the prizes at the association's recent member's assembly on May 26.
The awards ceremony was also attended by the professors who assisted the students in their research work, part of an ongoing relationship between the ACIMIT Foundation and educational and training centres.
Mr. Banfi underscored the importance of training young people, an essential element ensuring the continued success of Italy's textile machinery sector worldwide, transmitting to them the wealth of knowledge that is the basis for the nation's leadership position in the industry.
Italy's textile machinery sector numbers some 300 companies which employ 14,000 people. Overall revenues for 2008 amounted to 2.4 billion euros, of which 78% were exports.
Among the most significant activities undertaken by the ACIMIT Foundation are the publication of economic research studies related to the textile machinery sector, providing training material for Italian and foreign students (publishing scholastic texts), and organizing training courses in Italy for foreign textile operators.
