From January to June, the big and major textile enterprises realized an accumulative production value of 1.33 trillion Yuan, up 10.72 percent year-on-year and in the first 6 months, exports of textile and apparel reached US $74.726 billion, down 10.88 percent.
Of which, cumulative exports of textiles registered $28.84 billion, a decline of 14.89 percent year-on-year, while, clothing exports totaled $45.88 billion, down 8.16 percent year-on-year. This compares favorably with a negative growth of 21.8 percent for the overall basket of exports.
Textiles exports growth from all countries put together has maintained a negative trend, but the Chinese textile industry was able to maintain and consolidate its export share in international markets, despite the economic crisis affecting most of its overseas markets.
According to the data from Textile Office of the US Department of Commerce, from January to May this year, US textile and apparel imports from global markets fell by 14.12 percent year-on-year, of which imports from China dropped by 3.72 percent.
However, imports from China accounted for 34.74 percent of US imports from the world, a growth of 3.75 percent over the same period last year, which goes to show the competitiveness of the domestic textile sector vis-à-vis that of other countries.
