Index for 'Textiles' group rises by 0.4%

The official Wholesale Price Index for 'All Commodities'(Base: 1993-94 = 100) for the week ended 19th September 2009 rose by 0.3 percent to 243.3 (Provisional) from 242.6 (Provisional) for the previous week.

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 0.83 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 19/09/2009 (over 20/09/2008) as compared to 0.37 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 12/09/2009) and 12.13 percent during the corresponding week (ended 20/09/2008) of the previous year.

1. INFLATION
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 0.83 percent (Provisional)for the week ended 19/09/2009 over (20/09/2008) as compared to 0.37 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 12/09/2009) and 12.13 percent during the corresponding week ended 20/09/2008 of the previous year. Build up inflation in the financial year so far was 6.43% compared to a build up of 6.44% in the corresponding period of the previous year.

2. PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)
The index for this major group rose by 0.4 percent to 276.5 (Provisional) from 275.3 (Provisional) for the previous week.

3. MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS (Weight 63.75%)
The index for this major group rose by 0.1 percent to 209.0 (Provisional) from 208.8 (Provisional) for the previous week. The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

The index for 'Textiles' group rose by 0.4 percent to 144.3 (Provisional) from 143.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of cotton yarn-'hanks (2%) and hessian cloth and hessian & sacking bags (1% each).

The index for 'Chemicals & Chemical Products' group rose by 0.2 percent to 229.6 (Provisional) from 229.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of vitamin liquids and synthetic rubber (7% each), acid (all kinds) (5%), polystyrene (4%) and resins (all kinds) and carbon black (1% each).

4. FINAL INDEX FOR THE WEEK ENDED 25th July 2009
For the week ended 25/07/2009, the final wholesale price index for 'All Commodities' (Base:1993-94=100) stood at 239.0 as compared to 236.9 (Provisional) and annual rate of inflation based on final index, calculated on point to point basis, stood at -0.71 percent as compared to -1.58 percent (Provisional)reported earlier vide press note dated 06/08/2009.
