Karnataka will witness the opening of its first high-tech Textile Park which has been set up in the Hebbal industrial area of Mysore. This Textile Park is the brainchild of a bunch of small entrepreneurs who were earlier operating handloom units.
These handloom weavers of Bannimantap, who have worked on handlooms for generations, will now switch over to the mechanized powerlooms in the Textile Park, which has been set up with a grant from the Union Government.
The textile products manufactured in the Park are expected to be exported to overseas markets. A cooperative by the name of 'Powerloom Co-operative Society' was set up by these entrepreneurs. Help was also extended by the state Handloom and textile department.
Building construction is over, along with which electricity connections have also been provided to these units and machineries have also been installed in some of the units. It is expected that some units will begin operating from November 15.
