Guangdong posts growth in 2009 T&C exports to US

According to statistics released by Huangpu Customs on January 28, Guangdong Province in China exported US $30.99 billion of textiles and clothing in 2009, down 10.2 percent from the previous year.

Among them, exports of apparel and clothing accessories stood at $22.49 billion, down 12.3 percent and exports of textile yarn, fabrics and related products were $8.5 billion, down 4.2 percent.

In 2009, Guangdong's textile and garment exports showed more obvious volatility, exports in February fell to $1.4 billion. However, exports gradually increased month by month after February, but exports in October and November fluctuated again.

Exports of textiles and clothing in December marked $3.26 billion, down 2.3 percent year on year, but up 24.6 percent from the previous month and in the process created a new high for monthly export value in 2009.

Hong Kong, the EU and the U.S. remained major markets and exports to the United States increased in spite of the economic crisis. Shipments to Hong Kong registered $9.33 billion, down 13.7 percent.

Exports to the EU scored $5.84 billion, down 9.6 percent; exports to the United States fetched $4.82 billion, up 16 percent. Exports to the three markets accounted for 64.5 percent of total textile and garment exports.
