Textile revival funds alone are not enough to resuscitate the textile industry which is facing a range of problems, but has to be accompanied by ensuring proper supply of raw materials like cotton and yarn, machinery and new technologies.
This was observed by the second Deputy National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Alhaji Badaru Abubakar.
He advised the government to also invest in the agriculture sector to ensure proper availability of quality raw cotton and suggested to revive the defunct research institutes across the country and engage them in research for improved cotton seeds.
He lamented the fact that Nigeria which at one time was a leader in production of cotton, groundnuts, palm produce, millet, etc, had fallen behind other countries in production, due to lack of research and not implementing latest technologies.
