The Belait Mini Artisan and Handicrafts Exhibition at the International Convention Centre (ICC) had been organized in Berakas.

During the inaugural ceremony of this exhibition, the Chairman of the Kampung Lumut Consultative Council, Mr. Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad appealed to people to visit the exhibition and show their support for local handicrafts.

The Chairman anticipated good response, sympathy and support from the government, private sector and public, for the expo.

Mostly people such as single mothers, needy families and senior citizens of the region are involved in creating handicrafts, informed a Belait State Representative.

These people put efforts to make local crafts popular and to preserve the traditional skills. Support from public could help their efforts to become fruitful and to boost the economy as well, he said.

The Acting Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Mr. Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abdul Wahab also paid a visit to the exhibition, housing a number of handicrafts with variety of shapes and sizes.

This exhibition is held under the Product (Handicrafts) Expansion Program, which is a co-operative effort of Kampung Lumut 1 Village Consultative Council, the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and the Belait District Office.

The key purpose of this program is to assist deprived villagers to generate sustainable livelihood by promoting their individual crafts, and to improve their living standards.
