Chinese cotton imports shoot up in 2010

According to customs statistics, China imported 221,000 tons of cotton in February, down 26.7 percent compared with January, but increased by 37 percent from the same time, a year earlier.

The average import price was US $1,721 per ton, up 1.3 percent from January and 33.2 percent year on year.

In the first two months of 2010, China's total imports reached 522,400 tons, an increase by more than an unprecedented 100 percent from a year earlier.
