The Thai Textile Society invites you to a special visit to view the extensive collection of ethnic Tai clothing and textiles at the Office of Agricultural Museum and Culture, at Kasetsart University, one of the largest private collections in Thailand.
After being welcomed by a performance of a Tai Lue dance, Ajarn Orathai Pholdi, museum director, will guide us on a tour of the 30 Tai groups, which include Tai Lue, Tai Daeng, Tai Dam, Lao Krang and Phu Tai. These textiles are displayed along with musical instruments and agricultural implements, highlighting the importance of the co-relations of these items in Tai culture.
Among the items on display are rare wedding dresses that once belonged to nobility of the Tai Yai of the Shan State in Myanmar. Other textiles represent various Tai groups from Yunnan in China, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand.
