Court to not intervene in Bt cotton seed pricing issue

National Seeds Association of India had recently petitioned to the Andhra Pradesh High Court that, while fixing the rate of seeds, the AP government did not take into consideration, increased cost of seed production.

The trade body was of the opinion that the recent government order (GO) issued on April 24, 2010, was not in confirmation with the provisions of the AP Cottonseeds Act, 2007.

However, a division bench of the High Court, refused to interfere in the government order related to fixing the rate of Bt cotton seed.

The AP government in its defense had contended that the value was fixed taking in to account cost of production and royalty and since the farmers had already purchased the seeds, an interim order could not be given now.
