Blanket-factory labour row resolved
15
May '10
Labour representatives and officials of a blanket factory in the Shwelinban Industrial Zone of Rangoon divulged that, the ongoing row between the management and the employees, where the 14 worker leaders blamed their employers for prejudice, has been resolved.

The dispute ensued after May 6, as 80 workers from the Htawara Blanket Factory came up with demand for wage hike besides, a secured and healthy work environment and health-care facilities, a labour representative stated.

The labour leader divulged that, the 14 leaders on May 10 filed a complaint before the township labour office charging their employers for discrimination. They thus, pulled in the township's Peace and Development Council to administer the negotiations that took place between the management and the workers' leaders, he said.

The row ended as the employers assented to few of the workers' demands, and the meet concluded, with both the parties clarifying their stand, an official from Hlaingtharyar Township labour management committee divulged before the press.

Since December, hundreds of employees working with the garment manufacturing factories inclusive of the Lion City garment factory – sweets, footwear and leather in Hlaingtharyar, Shwepyithar and Insein townships in Rangoon Division, have demanded wage hikes, lesser work time and other labour privileges, have time and again, given strike calls.
