The Chairman of Managing Director of the Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd (LMW), Dr D Jayavarthanavelu passed away on Friday at the age of 70.
After completing his BSc in textiles from the University of Philadelphia in the US he joined the organization in 1970.
LMW was founded in 1962, by the father of Dr Jayavarthanavelu, Mr G K Devarajulu in a bid to offer latest spinning technology to Indian textile mills.
Over a period of time, LMW became one of the three leading textile manufacturers in the world producing the complete range of spinning machinery.
Dr Jayavarthanavelu has served as World President of the Textile Institute, Manchester, UK from 1998 to 2000 and was also a member of Development Council for Textile Machinery Industry set up by the Centre.
