China which has a current polyester production capacity of 26 million tons per annum is expected to scale that output by 2.45 million tons in the current year.
Eight new plants are expected to be put in to operation in 2010, including the one, which recently started commercial production with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year.
Of these eight plants, five plants would produce 1.65 million tons of polyester yarn, while the rest would manufacture 800,000 tons of polyester chips, for PET bottle production.
The addition of this new capacity would mean an additional demand for 2.1 million tons of PTA, which means an optimistic outlook for PTA producers.
According to experts, only one new PTA plant with a production capacity of 640,000 tons per annum is set to come up in the whole of the Asian region in 2010.
