Textile industry of Pakistan provides a substantial contribution in the national economy and shares around 60 percent in the country's overall exports, stated Kashif Shabbir, President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
But, the industry currently is facing huge financial losses due to energy crisis, he informed. As almost 3.6 million people depend on textile industry for their livelihood, any crisis in the industry would directly affect the local economy of the country, he added.
Shabbir demanded the government to take steps on priority basis to develop the industry and offer special incentives to improve export ratio.
While talking about textile industry's role in local economy, he commended the contribution of Kohinoor Textile Mill in the economy.
CEO Kohinoor Textile Mill, Taufeeq Saeed Saigal said that the mill generates about 12 MW electricity from gas and more 12 MW electricity from furnace oil. The problems of the industry must be addressed by the government, stressed Saigal.
