All manufacturing associations of textile industry including our Association participated in the meeting held in SIMA, Coimbatore on 21st August 2010 to discuss about the course of action to be taken on the Commerce Ministry's announcement on permitting cotton exports from 1st October 2010 onwards vide notification dated 17th August 2010.
In the meeting after deliberation, it was decided to make a joint representation to the Government impressing to permit the cotton exports after calibration and accordingly, the representation were sent to the Commerce and Textile Ministry jointly and also by our Association separately explaining the need to have a calibration in cotton exports.
In the same meeting, it was also decided to go for a closure of units, in case, if the Government is not amenable to the requisition of the entire textile industry.
The Executive Committee of Tirupur Exporters Association, meeting held on 6th September 2010, the topic on cotton exports and cotton price were discussed in detail and Executive Committee has decided to call for a day closure in case the envisaged notification is not in line with the requisition made by our Association and in this connection, our President Shri.A.Sakthivel have already discussed with Chairman AEPC and all other Associations the closure of garment units will be on all India basis.
