Lion Brand Yarn to sponsor 1st World Maker Faire

Lion Brand Yarn Company is sponsoring the first World Maker Faire New York September 25 & 26th 2010, which will take place at the New York Hall of Science in Queens. In addition to a busy schedule of free classes at the Lion Brand booth, the company is sponsoring two “makers”: Robyn Love, who is “yarn bombing” one of the rocket ships at the museum and Amy Caterina, who created a car cover made entirely of Fun Fur yarn.

At the Lion Brand booth, attendees will be offered free knit and crochet lessons, as well as machine knitting and weaving demonstrations. Visitors will have an opportunity to create make and take projects that include friendship bracelets, bangles and tassels. The Lion Brand booth will include a display of a yarn crafted cityscape with the Coney Island Cyclone and Wonder Wheel, as well as landmark buildings such as the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building.

At the rocket ship a trail of over 300 knit and crocheted squares will be attached to flow from the rocket. This interactive exhibit will allow visitors to write notes and pin them to the yarn crafted trail of squares with their personal “message to the universe.” After the event, the squares will be recreated into afghans to donate to the Warm Up America! Foundation.
