Vietnam is currently emerging as the main center of titanium production. The central areas of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan declared that they possess a reserve of about 560 million tons of titanium and zirconium.

These reserves have been identified under a project of VND300-billion (US $15.4 million), which was initiated in 2009. The project has undertaken the task of exploring metals in the two central areas as well as the southern area of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The latest findings have increased Vietnam's total reserves to about 650 million tons.

So far, China was the leading titanium producer, producing around 30 percent of the world production. Around 63 titanium dioxide producing centers have been identified in China in 2010, which are still active.
