The textile firms of Taiwan are expected to take advantage of the latest technology and the trade alliance with China to increase their share in the Chinese market. The Taiwanese textile firms are expected to benefit from the tariff concessions given by China, before their South Korean rivals take advantage of such tariff exemptions, as South Korea has not received the tariff-cut treatment from China, so far.
The Taiwanese textile firms have displayed their textile items at the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show. The Taiwan Textile Research Institute has displayed its latest water-repelling textile coated with an eco-friendly material at the expo, to show the country's latest innovations in the field of textiles. The institute also exhibited a 'textile garden' where the plants were grown on textile materials.
Taiwan is far ahead of China in manufacturing textile products which are ultraviolet-resistant, electrostatic-resistant or anti-bacterial, said an expert. These unique products along with the tariff concessions are expected to enhance the textile business prospects of Taiwan in China. About 136 textile products of Taiwan are likely to enjoy the duty-free status when exported to China from early next year under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).
