Innovation - The buzzword at Sintex, says Rahul Patel

F2F: With cotton prices flaring, India decided to open up exports. How do you foresee the cost factors affecting the country's textile and apparel exports? Have you any envisaged any steps to hedge over the situation in your company?
Mr Patel: There is already a hype created on the cotton prices this season, because of various reasons. The cost of raw material has gone up tremendously and it is very difficult for smaller manufacturing units and exporters to absorb it. At this juncture, I think that, the Government policy of allowing cotton exports is not the right step.
Instead of that they should look at giving incentives to the exporter who consumes cotton and produces fabrics and garments. By allowing cotton exports we are only creating our own competition with other countries instead of supporting the domestic textile and apparel industry. In this situation, buying cotton/yarn periodically and selling in short term is advisable than going for long term cover. We will continue to adopt this policy for the next three months and review the situation as it demands.
F2F: Any future plan that will embark Sintex on the textile innovation?
Mr Patel: May be, giving it a cutting age over competition or offering fresh developments. Sintex believes in "Active Thinking" and always plans for tomorrow. Innovation is the buzz word at Sintex. Considering our philosophy, we always try to do something different from others. We will continue to cater only niche and up-markets with our structured fabric in different kinds of weaves, chemical and mechanical finishes as per fashion trends.
