Huntsman TE registers new dye structures in Colour Index
Dec '10
The Society of Dyers and Colourists and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, joint publishers of the Colour Index, are pleased to announce that Huntsman Textile Effects (TE) has registered its new products with the publication.

Colorants are identified worldwide by their Colour Index (CI) Generic Names. New names are assigned only for new structures and may be used to identify dyes and pigments from a variety of manufacturers.

Huntsman TE recently presented three of its newest products for registration. All three were recognized as unique structures and issued new generic names and numbers. By agreement with Huntsman TE the structures are held confidentially by the Colour Index and will not be published.

Avitera Yellow SE is now also CI Reactive Yellow 217
Avitera Red SE is CI Reactive Red 286
Avitera Deep Blue SE is CI Reactive Blue 281

According to a Huntsman TE representative, "Huntsman TE has applied for the Colour Index numbers for their new Avitera SE reactive dye range, as they recognize the importance to have the Colour Index as a guide for available dyes in the world."

Only dyes registered with the Colour Index should use the CI designation. Dye users can check the Colour Index to ensure they are purchasing dyes that have been registered.

The Colour Index is the definitive guide to the technical details of dyes and pigments, and the companies that manufacture them. The fourth edition of the Colour Index is now available online and includes nomenclature, constitution, main applications, and suppliers. It is published jointly by the Society of Dyers and Colourists and the American Association of Dyers and Colorists.

The SDC is the leading independent, educational charity dedicated to advancing the science and technology of color worldwide. Its mission is to communicate the science of color in a changing world. The organization celebrated its 125th anniversary last year.
