Imports of cotton yarn in the month of October increased by 50.1 percent to 24,385 bales from a record low level witnessed in October, last year. Again, the imports registered a hike when compared with the figures of the previous month and are on the track of recovery with the onset of the demand season.
Imports of cotton yarn from Indonesia, which is its biggest supplier, escalated to 67.2 percent to touch the level of 8,260 bales, from a year ago. Cotton yarn imports from India increased to 73.4 percent to reach 4,258 bales. However, cotton yarn imports from Pakistan witnessed a drop by 25.1 percent to 5,813 bales.
As Japanese cotton yarn imports are reflecting a slow but consistent trend of upturn, both Indonesia and India are securing a larger share in the Japanese market especially for cotton yarn imports.
Combed cotton yarn imports, too, witnessed outstanding improvement with a growth of 50.7 percent to reach 13,040 bales. Due to the fall in the spinning capacity, combed yarn manufacturing has reduced in Japan and the focus of the market has, now, turned towards imported yarn.
Blended yarn imports increased to 63.6 percent to reach 3,635 bales.
