Textiles and clothing exports of Indonesia witnessed a surge in 2010. It went up by 21.2 percent and stood at US $11.32 billion.
The growth in textile and clothing exports is largely attributed to exports of rayon fibres which registered a growth of 46.7 percent, yarn and fabric which grew 29.3 percent and garments which contributed the maximum in terms of value by registering a growth of 15.3 percent and stood at $6.7 billion.
The textile exports of Indonesia improved due to the recovery of the global economic scenario which has also led to a growth of 4 to 5 percent in textile consumption throughout the world.
US continued to remain one of the major textile markets in the world in 2010. Indonesia ranked fourth among the major suppliers of textiles to US by exporting 14.6 percent textiles following China which exported 21.7 percent textiles, Vietnam and India – each exporting 16.7 percent textiles to US.
