The Federal Government's move of releasing N200 billion textile bailout fund has been applauded by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUCN) as the move has helped the sector to reinstate around 2,000 workers in jobs last year.
However, the TUCN has emphasized that if the government actually has a concern for the workers, the National Assembly should clear the Minimum Wages Bill to give it a form of law, by end of this month, so as to evade any industrial crisis and its resultant effects.
TUC President General Comrade Peter Esele recently stated that, three of the textile manufacturing firms in Kaduna, including the United Nigeria Textile Mills Ltd which were shut down previously, have been restarted post release of the textile bailout fund of N200 billion by the government. Around 2,000 workers of these firms who lost their jobs on account of the closure have been reinstated.
Further he even urged the government to provide other key sectors of the country with similar assistance.
