China's total cotton imports rise stupendously in 2010

China's cotton imports reached 462,000 tons in December 2010, representing an increase of 336,000 tons or 266 percent from November, and an increase of 113 percent year on year, according to customs statistics.

Average cotton import price continued to rise to reach US $2,656/ton, up US $300 or 12.7 percent from November. India surpassed the United States and Uzbekistan, once again becoming the largest source of China's cotton imports in December.

China's total cotton imports stood at 2.839 million tons in 2010, witnessing an increase of 86 percent year on year. China imported 885,000 tons in the first three months of 2010, registering an increase of 60.9 percent year on year.
