Maruzen Petrochemical Company began restarting its 480,000 tons per annum naphtha cracker, under a month after, a powerful earthquake struck Japan on March 11.
The plant of Maruzen located in Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo, resumed production Monday onwards.
The only crackers that now need to be operational in Japan are of Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, which has a combined capacity of 828,000 tons per annum.
In late-March, Mitsubishi had announced that it would take a minimum of two months to restart the crackers.
The ethylene production capacity of Japan is around 7.3 million tons per annum.
