In April, China imported 53,583 tons of acrylonitrile (ACN), an increase of 57.5 percent year on year, but a decline of 3.5 percent from March, according to latest customs data.
In April, the United States was China's largest supplier of acrylonitrile and reached 16,603 tons, followed by South Korea with 13,502 tons and from Japan it touched 10,205 tons.
In the last week of April, acrylonitrile price reached a record high of US $2,875 / ton (CFR Far East Asia), up 17 percent year on year, but the price fell 2.3 percent on Tuesday to US $2,808 / ton.
Market participants say that the relatively high price this year has been caused by a series of overhauls and many production problems faced by manufacturers, which have led to tight supply of spot goods in Asia and other parts of the world.
