Buyers in the US, EU and UK are shifting their textile sourcing from Pakistan and China to Bangladesh, which in turn is expected to result in a surge of home textiles exports from Bangladesh in the second half of this year. The country is expected to export $47.39 million worth of home textiles to the US and $52.41 million to the EU and UK in December 2021.

The quality of products being offered by textile manufacturers from Bangladesh to western buyers is better than that of Pakistani and Chinese manufacturers. Also, Bangladeshi exporters are offering competitive prices and ensuring on-time delivery.

The anticipated rise in home textiles exports to western developed nations can be attributed to the recovering global demand and increasing rate of vaccinations. Additionally, during the lockdowns, maximum population was at home which has boosted the demand for home textiles.

Home textiles exports of Bangladesh to the US were $23.04 million in January 2021, which dropped slightly by 2.47 per cent to reach $22.47 million in March 2021. The exports have been on an upward trajectory ever since and will reach $47.39 million in December 2021, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market analysis tool TexPro.

Bangladesh’s home textiles exports to the EU and the UK were at $45.56 million in January 2021 and $42.03 million in March 2021. Exports increased to $49.37 million in June 2021 and are expected to record a rise of 6.15 per cent to reach $52.41 million in December 2021.
