The Dixie Group, a US-based manufacturer of luxury soft floor covering carpet and rugs, reported 1.5 per cent sales decline to $88.6 million in its fourth quarter (Q4) FY20 ended on December 26, 2020 compared to sales of $90.1 million in the same period prior fiscal. The company reported a net loss during Q4 of $0.3 million (Q4 FY19: income $25.7 million).

“While we are still assessing the long-term impacts of the Covid-19 crisis on our markets and operating practices, we are encouraged by the improvement in sales. The abrupt decline of over 50 per cent in sales in April was certainly a shock to our system, but we have been pleased with the recovery in the residential market,” Daniel Frierson, chairman and chief executive officer at Dixie Group, said in a press release.

Operating income for Q4 FY20 dropped to $1.5 million ($26.7 million), while EBITDA came down to $3.4 million ($5.0 million).

“The third quarter showed positive growth versus prior year, driven by strong sales in the specialty retail channel, and the fourth quarter was a very strong quarter in all segments of the residential business,” Frierson said. “Our soft surface segment grew throughout the second half of 2020, driven by our EnVision 6,6 programme as well as aggressive promotional activity. We are continuing our diversification strategy by significantly expanding our EnVision 6,6 offering with over 20 new styles across all brands.”
