FTIB-NZ trade mission opens closed door for garment manufacturers

Fiji could be looking at more New Zealand companies sourcing or relocating to Fiji for manufacturing or buying of textiles, clothing or footwear in the near future.
This has been made possible after a successful New Zealand trade mission was accomplished by a business delegation led by Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau (FTIB) Chief Executive Lailun Khan.
United Apparel General Manager Kaushik Kumar, one of the five Fiji manufacturers who went on the trade mission stated that the mission had opened closed doors for garment manufacturers, like United Apparel.
He said that the response from New Zealand companies has been great and that already developments have taken place and he is anticipating some trial orders to be undertaken shortly as they were already producing samples of clothes discussed with the New Zealand companies.
The mission was undertaken to identify garment manufacturers and buyers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch who were considering outsourcing their garments from countries other than China, and was also to disseminate policies/incentives to facilitate awareness and investment in Fiji's TCF industry.
The mission confirmed there is great potential for Fiji's TCF products into the New Zealand market particularly for the small orders and the re-runs.
A total of 19 meetings were undertaken by the delegation with 5 meetings done in Christchurch, 1 in Wellington and 13 in Auckland.
The Fiji delegation was able to showcase samples and the quality of garments made in Fiji, which impressed those they met.
