In the past 30 years, magnificent examples of Chinese textiles from the 15th and 16th centuries have appeared on the international art market. Chris Hall will talk about these textiles and the importance of dress and textiles in Chinese society. He will illustrate the talk with slides from his collection.

Chris Hall, of course, needs no introduction in the world of Chinese and Asian textiles. An international tax consultant by day, he has lived and worked in Hong Kong for many years and is a founder member of the Textile Society of Hong Kong.

Starting with the purchase of a Chinese robe from Sotheby's, he has, over the years, built up a famous collection which is recognised internationally as one of the largest, finest and most comprehensive collections of antique Chinese costumes and textiles in private ownership.

He has written and lectured worldwide on Chinese textiles and his collection has recently been featured in the Singapore Asian Civilisations Museum exhibition and magnificently illustrated catalogue, Power-Dressing: Textiles for Rulers and Priests, from the Chris Hall Collection, copies of which will be available at a discounted rate.
