48th Joint Technological Conference by ATIRA, BTRA, NITRA & SITRA

It gives me great pleasure, as vice-chairman of the Council of Administration, SITRA, to preside over the inaugural session of the conference.

I particularly feel nostalgic on this occasion as I recall that my father Sri G.V. Doraiswamy as Chairman, Council of Administration, gave welcome address at SITRA's Silver Jubilee Conference.

I am happy that Sri E.V.K.S Elangovan , Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Textiles, Govt. of India, is here with us to inaugurate the 48th Joint Technological Conference organized by ATIRA, BTRA, NITRA and SITRA. Sri S.V. Arumugam, Chairman, SIMA, gives good encouragement to SITRA's R&D work and I am pleased that he is with us.

The four TRAs have done very good and highly commendable work by carrying out useful research studies and also rendering various services to the textile industry like training, testing and consultancy. I take this opportunity to highlight very briefly some of the recent studies carried out by each TRA.

Keeping in view that markets are looking for newer products, SITRA has developed an attachment for producing elastane core yarns on the existing open-end spinning machines. Yarns in the range of 7s to 10s were produced in the machine, using elastane material as core.

The RKM values, evenness, imperfections and hairiness showed better results in these yarns as compared to the regular yarns of comparable counts. This attachment can be easily retrofitted to the existing machines with minor modifications in the rotor box.
