A CITU delegation comprising Dr M K Pandhe, President, Mohammed Amin, MP, General Secretary, Basudeb Acharia MP, Vice President, Tapan Sen MP, Scecretary and K Chandran Pillai MP, met the Union Labour Minister, Shri Oscar Fernendes and urged upon him to take immediate step to increase the ceilings in Payment of Bonus Act 1965 with effect from the year 2006-07 in view of the forthcoming festival season.

The delegation pointed out that the existing level of ceilings under Bonus Act has become totally obsolete and even the lowest level unskilled workers in the industrial sectors are being deprived of the Bonus Payment.

Hon'ble Prime Minister in the meeting held with him of the Central Trade Unions more than one year back on 19th August 2006 assured in writing to revise upward the ceilings under Bonus Act but the same has not yet been acted upon.

The 41st session of Indian Labour Conference held in April 2007 took a consensus decision to increase the bonus ceilings for calculation and eligibility to Rs 3500/- and Rs 10,000/- respectively but no action has been taken on the same, the delegation pointed out.

Labour Minister assured the delegation to initiate required step for upward revision of ceilings under Payment of Bonus Act at the earliest.
