Union Minister of State for Textiles visits India Carpet Expo

India Carpet Expo at Varanasi on the Second day registered the presence of 34 overseas buyers in addition to 87 already registered on 1st day of the fair i.e. on 17.10.2007, which was inaugurated by Shri Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister Of State for Commerce.
Hon'ble Minister of State for Textiles Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan visited the show alongwith Shri P.K. Mohanty, Joint Secretary (DBK), Ministry of Finance. Income Tex Commissioner, Varanasi also visited to the show.
Some of the leading and reputed buyers from USA, U.K. and Australia who visited the fair were very much impressed with the display of various hand made carpets and other floor coverings and arrangements made by the organizers.
The Organizers are bearing the cost of their traveling to Varanasi and stay in Hotel. For getting feedback from the industry and to get it resolve Council also holds Workshop in Hotel Taj Ganges on the “Indian Handmade Carpet Industry – Challenges and Opportunities” which was chaired by Hon'ble Minister of State for Textiles Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan and addressed by Sr. Govt. officials from Delhi besides prominent trade representatives and international speakers including GMs of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India and Indian Overseas Bank.
The participants have reported to have received huge orders from the buyers for which they will have to take 5 to 6 months to execute.
The indication received during the fair is showing a major turning point for revival if the industry which was going under recession for the last so many years. As such the industry aspire for generating additional employment opportunity for the artisans.
The organizers are expecting a total turnout of more than 200 buyers visiting the buyers till the last day. The organizers will compile and release the amount of orders generated during the fair only the last day of the fair which will be the surprising figure for the aspirants in the industry.
The fair is a grand success both for the exporters participating in the fair and the buyers visited the fair.
