Cumulative growth for April-Sept 2007-08 stands at 9.2%

The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of September 2007 have been released by the Central Statistical Organisation of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The General Index stands at 259.1, which is 6.4% higher as compared to the level in the month of September 2006. The cumulative growth for the period April-September 2007-08 stands at 9.2% over the corresponding period of the pervious year.

The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of September 2007 stand at 155.6, 279.1, and 210.1 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 6.0%, 6.6% and 4.5% as compared to September 2006.

The cumulative growth during April-September, 2007-08 over the corresponding period of 2006-07 in the three sectors have been 5.3%, 9.7% and 7.7% respectively, which moved the overall growth in the General Index to 9.2%

In terms of industries, as many as fifteen (15) out of the seventeen (17) industry groups (as per 2-digit NIC-1987) have shown positive growth during the month of September 2007 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

The industry group 'Wood and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures' have shown the highest growth of 72.5%, followed by 27.1% in 'Other Manufacturing Industries' and 14.0% in 'Basic Metal and Alloy Industries'.

On the other hand, the industry group 'Transport Equipment and Parts' have shown a negative growth of 1.6% followed by 1.5% in 'Food Products'.
