Cabinet Minister & UK Chemical Boss salute chemical industry

Today the Chemical Industries Association welcomed The Rt Hon John Hutton MP, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, as guest of honour at their Annual Dinner to celebrate the UK chemical industry.

Speaking at the Dinner Mr Hutton said "The benefits of the UK's thriving chemical industry can be felt in all areas of our everyday life having an impact on how we travel, communicate, work and care for ourselves as well as employing nearly 200,000 people.

It can help us make the world a safer and easier place to live and will be fundamental in our fight against climate change.”

"I am therefore pleased to announce the establishment of the Innovation and Growth Team in Industrial Biotechnology, to be chaired by Ian Shott of Excelysn to integrate industrial biotechnology into the sector helping to drive future competitiveness and more sustainable manufacturing in the industry.”

Mr Hutton added, "You have a powerful advocate in the Chemical Industries Association. A group that helps lead and promote your sector to business, the public and Government. Articulating the challenges you face, and celebrating
your achievements."

Steve Elliott, CIA Chief Executive said, "It is a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State here tonight in acknowledgement of the vital role the chemical industry plays in the UK economy with record export performances and in providing the solutions such as products that will help reducethe nation's carbon foot print."
