With a growth rate of 23.1 percent, the Apparel division incontrovertibly led the pack during the past quarter. Most of this growth comes from two product lines in which a number of contracts were recently won. Despite the attractive growth figures, protective clothing remains a hypercompetitive market in which margins are under heavy pressure.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS This division is organized around three major activity clusters: - Transport-related activities.
The Sioen Group successfully prospects and supplies a number of markets in the transport sector via various subsidiaries. Through its Dutch-Polish enterprises the group produces truck and container tarpaulins and curtains, for which it is the preferred partner of Europe's bestknown trailer builders. Through its French subsidiary the group also produces railway tarpaulins. Here we have also won a significant position on the European market with our technical innovations.
- Military applications Through its French subsidiary the group also supplies the military market with truck and jeep covers (with or without printed camouflage patterns), camouflage nets, tents, etc.
- Various international applications The Sioen group uses its know-how to be competitive in a wide variety of industrial markets through the production of tent kadors, inflatable silos, needlefelt and filters, as well as airbag cutting.
This division performed strongly in the past quarter, growing by no less than 10.3 percent (after eliminating inter-segment turnover) compared with the same period last year. Growth is evenly distributed over the different activities and product lines. This is reflected in a rise in operating cash flow (EBITDA) in line with the increase in turnover.
