J&K to unveil carbonizing technology to enhance wool quality, says Zargar

Jammu and Kashmir is shortly introducing wool carbonizing technology to bring value addition of wool and wool products.
The modern technology helps to remove Burr and vegetable matter from wool to make it fit for knit wearing and fabrics on wollen system of spinning without scouring.
This technology is already in vogue in Europe and the quality of wool in Jammu and Kashmir is also suitable for woollen type of spinning and not worsted, due to short staple length of wool. A sub-committee has been constituted to formulate a project report for the purpose.
Decision to this effect was taken at the 40th meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Sheep and sheep Products Development Board held here today. The Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar, who is also Chairman of the Corporation, presided.
The Minister of State for Sheep and Animal Husbandry Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Department, Mr. M. Iqbal Khanday, Secretary, Sheep and Animal Husbandry and MLA Sartaj Madni and ch. Basharat Ali both members of Board also attended the meeting.
Jammu and Kashmir State suitable for woollen type of spinning and not worsted due to short staple length of wool and the carbonizing technology would help to harness the potential optimally. A sub-committee has been constituted to formulate an economically feasible and technically viable project for this purpose.
The meeting also decided to set up a modern wool scouring plant at Srinagar on the pattern of scouring plant at Kartholi in Jammu for value addition of wool. It was also decided to review wool procurement rate in the month of August after proper assessment about prevailing market trend.
