Takata, Japan's largest maker of auto safety equipment is planning to set up first production base for seat-belts in India.

Mr Hirohisa Takamuku, General Manager, Overseas Business Management, confirmed to Fibre2fashion, “Takata Corporation needs to get official approval from the Indian Government before starting the production. We are planning first factory in southern India by the end of 2009. Location has not yet been decided.”

Mr Takamuku further informed, “We have not supplied to Toyota Motor and General Motors in India, but we have supplied to both these companies out side India.”

He said, “We are planning for 100 percent self-investment and not a Joint Venture. It is still too early to disclose investment or the capacity of the facility.”
