Thanks to a $760,000 grant from the US Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA), a non-profit organization in New Mexico, Tapetes de Lana has set up a wool-processing building and used equipment.
This fledgling organization established in 1998, has two studios and caters to tourists and community members from the countryside providing excellent wool fibres, yarns, carpets, coasters, apparels, table runners, rugs etc.
EDA ensured that Tapetes de Lana get the project without getting outbidded in a sale.
Plant set on a 11,000-square-foot area, will be equipped with machines to wash, card and spin 200 to 400 pounds of wool yarn a day.
The office building in Mora was purchased way back in 1998 at the time of the organization's incorporation with a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
