ATC contributes $120,000 to breast cancer research

American Textile Company (ATC) is donating $120,000 to breast cancer research and awareness programs.

The money was raised through ATC's annual Pink Pillow Initiative. “Breast cancer touches so many women and families in Pittsburgh and across the nation,” said Jack Ouellette, president and CEO of ATC. “We are proud to support efforts to find a cure and generate more awareness, especially among women who are at risk.”

ATC is donating $20,000 of the total money to the Pittsburgh affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The remainder of the money will be donated to Komen's national organization headquartered in Dallas, Texas. ATC first introduced its “Pink Pillow” in 2005.

The polyester-filled bed pillows are surrounded with rosy pink bands. The pillows are sold for $10 dollars at retailers nationwide, with a portion of each sale going to breast cancer research.

This year's initiative partnered A. J. Wright, Amazon.com, Bi-Mart Stores, Burlington Coat Factory, Century 21 Department Store, dd's Discounts, Fred Meyer, Gottschalks, Home Goods, Home Outfitters, Kmart, Kohl's, LTD Commodities, Marshalls, Ross Stores Inc, Sears, Shopko, Stein Mart, T. J. Maxx and Wal-Mart.

“Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Jo Ann Meier, executive director, Pittsburgh affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “This donation is going to help fund research and awareness programs that are key to saving lives and making a difference.”

The Pink Pillows were sold throughout 2007. American Textile Company's contribution for 2006 was $78,000. Response has been so great that the campaign continues to grow each year.
