Intertek recently participated in the mobilization meetings organized by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), for which Intertek serves as and empanelled agency, to discuss relevant topics of interest for CLE members in the leather, footwear, tannery and sporting goods industry segments. Three one-day meetings were held in advance of the upcoming 18th Annual Delhi International Leather Fair in Jalandhar (Sept. 8), Agra (Sept. 15) and Delhi (Sept. 22).

Intertek presented on Social Compliance and Restricted and Banned Substances. The Social Compliance discussion covered issues such as child labor, wages, health and safety. Regular media exposure and heightened awareness among buyers and the exporting community has made social compliance adherence a must. The Restricted and Banned Substances discussion covered their sources, prevention and control.

Intertek was represented under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Dilip Gianchandani, Regional Director, and Mr. Jaideeep Kohli, Business Manager (Footwear, Leather and Hardlines), who presented Intertek overview. They were later followed by Mr. Vijay Ahuja, Business Manager (Audits ), who briefed the group on the Social Compliance requirements, and Mr. Vivek Sharma (Sr. Manager – Chemical and Hardlines), who handled the Restricted and Banned substances presentation.

The topics were well received by the industry and the participants actively exchanged their ideas and views during the interactive sessions. Intertek has assured CLE and its members of the continued support and that it would extend all assistance and be their partners in progress.
