Intertek, the leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries, provides a single-source solution to assist companies in fulfilling the European Union's Classification, Labelling, and Packaging (CLP) Regulation and REACH Regulation compliance obligations.

Intertek provides global expertise by helping companies identify their CLP regulatory obligations and prepare notification dossiers for submission to the ECHA. Intertek also offers full declaration support and a strategy and training package to support companies in meeting the CLP compliance requirements,

As of December 1, 2010, all manufacturers, importers, and downstream users are required to classify, label, and package chemical substances within the scope of the CLP Regulation requirements before placing them on the EU market. Another important requirement is that substances sold in the EU, both individually and in mixtures, must be accompanied by a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that meets the requirements of Annex 1 of EU Regulation 453/2010. These obligations are already in place since December 1, 2010.

Substances sold both individually and in mixtures, placed on the market before December 1, 2010, must be notified to the ECHA by the first deadline of January 3, 2011. For substances placed on the market after this date, notifications must be submitted within one month of being placed on the market.

Compliance with the new EU regulation managing classification, notification and product safety labelling is required for substances and mixtures subject to registration under the REACH Regulation (= 1 metric tonne), as well as all hazardous substances, irrespective of their tonnage and use. Meeting the CLP requirements are prerequisites for EU market entry and will need to be addressed alongside the challenging REACH Regulation deadlines already facing companies. While the first CLP deadlines have passed, companies are urged to notify any substances placed on the EU market without delay. In addition, they should start to prepare for compliance with the next important CLP Regulation deadline of June 1, 2015 for mixtures.

“Some companies underestimate their requirements under the CLP legislation and its potential impact on their products and EU market access”, states Dr. Ruud Overbeek, Global Vice President of Intertek's Health and Environmental Services. ”Intertek has developed a cost effective, single source solution to help customers understand and meet the CLP regulation requirements.”

Intertek will present a free 1 hour webinar on May 5, 2011 reviewing the CLP Regulation requirements and approaches to regulatory compliance.
