Category-wise, knitwear exports fell 3.85 per cent year-on-year to $606.113 million during the quarter, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 3.04 per cent to $521.508 million.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $17.454 million during the period under review, showing a sharp drop of 68.53 per cent compared to exports of $55.461 million made during the same period of the previous fiscal. Likewise, cotton yarn exports fell by 20.68 per cent to $303.805 million, as against exports of $382.991 million made during the same period in 2015-16.
Exports of cotton fabric dropped 3.90 per cent to $539.105 million during the three-month period, while bedwear exports increased by 2.82 per cent to $528.845 million, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports dropped 17.28 per cent year-on-year to $125.705 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk increased 5.60 per cent to $151.327 million.
The value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan increased by 5.72 per cent year-on-year to $115.696 million during the same period.
In fiscal 2015-16, Pakistan's textile and garment exports decreased by 7.42 per cent year-on-year to $12.455 billion. (RKS)
