FDDI participates in 'Technical Seminar'

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) participated in one day technical seminar on 'Design Development of Rubber Components for Automobile & Footwear Industry' & 'Natural Rubber Scenario at the India and Global Level with Particular reference to its Pricing, Production and Consumption and its Alternate' on 16th December, 2009.

The seminar was organized by Indian Rubber Manufacturers Research Association (IRMRA), Mumbai (Affiliated to Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of India) & Foundation of Rubber & Polymer Manufacturers (FORM), New Delhi at India International Center, 40, Max Muller Marg, Lodi Road, New Delhi.

India ranks as the third largest producer of Natural Rubber and 4th largest manufacturer of rubber goods in the world. Rubber Industry plays a significant role in Indian Economy as it has a global presence which makes it self sufficient for all its development activities.

The technological development in the area of Rubber makes modern life comfortable and easy as it affects people of all walks of life. Its application besides the automotive, mechanical and other sector is in footwear sector suchas in ski boots, ice-hockey boots, roller skates, hiking and mountaineering shoes.

Emphasizing upon the relevance & requirement of attending the seminar, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, said, “Being the apex institute in the area of footwear design & technology, it was imperative for us to participate as the seminar was related to rubber which is one of the most important constituent of footwear sector.”

During the seminar, Mr. V. B. Parvatikar, Director (Technical), FDDI also gave a powerpoint presentation on 'Design & Development of Components for Footwear Industry'.

In the seminar, the sector's most influential leaders from various major rubber companies, associations who were having immense experience in this sector expressed their views.

The other topics of the seminar were 'Selection Criteria and Reliability Study of Rubbers for Auto Application' by Dr. S. K. Chakraborty, Director (Act.) IRMRA, 'Natural Rubber - Alternate Possibilities' by Dr. S. N. Chakraborty, KPS Consultants & Impex Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, 'Natural Rubber Scenario: India & Global - Key issues on Production, Consumption & Price Trends' by Dr. Rajiv Budhiraja, Director General, Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association, 'Optimization of Zinc Oxide in Footwear & Automobile Compounds' by Mr. Mehul Patel, Rubamin Limited, Vadodara, 'Physical, Chemical & Advanced Instrumental Testing of Rubber Products' by Mr. P. Roy Choudhury, Jt. Director IRMRA and 'Life Prediction of Automotive Rubber Products' by Dr. S K Chakraborty, Director (Act.), IRMRA.

The seminar proved to be an excellent opportunity for the industry to take maximum benefit from this innovative technology. Besides the people from the industry, a large number of media persons were also present.

Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI stated, “The objective was to provide insight on the issues, and to discuss the possible approaches for formulating and implementing policies for the development of Rubber industry.”

From FDDI, Mr. Vikas Teotia, Sr. Technical Faculty and Mr. Vivek Raina, Sr. Technical Faculty attended the seminar.

There was an interactive session after the presentations. The seminar was a great success as it attracted over 100 persons from this trade.
